BIO

GOLDFEATHER is a Brooklyn-based folk music band-meets contemporary classical ensemble, with a dash of cabaret for flavor. Led by native Minnesotan singer and violinist Sarah Goldfeather, Goldfeather's music has been described as "full of light and life" (The Current, Minnesota Public Radio), "distinctive...whimsical" (The Boot) "poignant...striking and laudable" (The Deli Magazine), with "lush, dynamic collective of sound," "striking intensity" (Elmore Magazine) and "astonishing musicianship" (Impose Magazine),  and even "[the] most musically talented ensemble ever" (Pen's Eye View). Goldfeather's music explores unusual melodies garnished with three-part harmonies against a rich indie-folk-pop backdrop. Sarah and her fearless conservatory-trained five-piece band - Dylan McKinstry (mandolin/voice), Katie Martucci (guitar/voice), Nathan Koci (accordion/banjo/voice) and Pat Swoboda (double bass) - have collective musical backgrounds in almost every genre imaginable, all of which factor into Goldfeather's unique sound. Performance highlights include the 2016 Ecstatic Music Festival and Mata Interval Series in New York, which was featured on WQXR, The Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago presented by Eighth Blackbird, the Times Two Series in Boston, and a monthly residency at Barbés in Brooklyn. Goldfeather's first full-length album, Patchwork Quilt, was released in September 2016, and they put out a 2014 EP, Goldfeather (released under their previous moniker, Sarah Goldfeather). In her concurrent life as a contemporary music violinist, Sarah has performed in the 2015 TEDxMET series at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, curated and performed in concerts for La Asociación de Música Electroacústica y Arte Sonoro de España in Madrid and Valencia, Spain, as well as the String Theories Festival (String Orchestra of Brooklyn) in New York. She has worked closely with many artists, including 2016 MacArthur Fellow and Pulitzer Prize winner Julia Wolfe, Courtney Love, Steve Reich, Timo Andres, Chris Cerrone, Kishi Bashi, Todd Almond, Eliot Glazer, Beth Morrison Projects, Contemporaneous, and many more.  Sarah is also the founder, co-director and violinist of the seven-piece new music ensemble, Exceptet, one half of the soprano-violin duo, Cipher, co-founder and singer for the new electronics band, RSP, and singer and violinist for both Rokenri and Cooper Boone.
